‘Home on the Grange’ showcases local talent
writes, "WALLACE — The famed television show “American Idol” isn’t coming to the Silver Valley any time soon, but the Sixth Street Melodrama will be spoofing the show in their latest production."
“Home on the Grange” starts tonight at the Sixth Street Melodrama. The spring production was written and directed by Joy Persoon, a vocal teacher for the Kellogg School District.

The production highlights the people of the fictional Midwestern area of Hookerville Grange, “the wildest grange in Iowa,” Persoon said. The townspeople are holding their first version of the popular “American Idol” show. The cast and characters will be singing country music. There are 26 adults and children in the cast, Persoon said.

“We’ve got new people in the production that we’ve never used before,” she said.

This will be the first year the production has been performed. The production will be at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday; and 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, and March 10 and 11. There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12. The show will continue at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. Tickets for the production are $10 and $12. For reservations, call 752-8871, or 1-877-SIXTHST.

“This is the epitome of what community theater is about,” Persoon said. “Some people have never been on stage and some have been doing it for years. This gives people the opportunity to [perform].”
