| Sixth Street Melodrama windows replaced |
admin writes, "By LAUREN TANDY Managing editor
WALLACE -- Sixth Street Melodrama has new windows thanks to generous Wallace business people.
Susan Johnson and Jim Hendrixson, Realtors for the Tomlinson Black Silver Valley Realty Wallace branch, asked Vern Hanson, melodrama actor, what the theater needed."
|
"I told [Hendrixson] and he did it," Hanson said. "We never get a donation like that."
Hanson estimated that the last time the theater's windows were replaced was in 1984, and since the building was meant for summer-time use, the windows were single pane and not able to keep heat in.
"We've had to winterize it so we don't freeze to death," Hanson said of the melodrama building, located at 212 6th Street in Wallace.
Johnson and Hendrixson spent over $2,000 on the project.
"We just both feel like it's a benefit to the community," said Johnson, who has been involved with the theater for the past several years. "We both felt that it was a good cause."
About a dozen windows were replaced with new vinyl, double-pane windows from Lifetime Roofing and Siding Co. of Kellogg. Lifetime gave the pair a discount as a contribution to the project.
"We're just happy to be able to do this for a community that gives so much of their time and effort," Johnson said. "We really believe in what the melodrama does to help the community."
This is the first time Hendrixson and Johnson teamed up to fund a community project, but they said it won't be the last.
"Our plan is to help where we can on an ongoing basis," Johnson said.
Hendrixson noted that the melodrama is always in need of assistance as it is a nonprofit organization, and encouraged other businesses to help where possible.
