The Sixth Street Melodrama and Theater is currently looking for individuals to volunteer in many different ways.  Please see the opportunities below for more information, and thank you for your interest in our theater.

  • Concessions - People who volunteer for concessions will arrive to the theatre early, prep all concessions and related materials, and sell concession before the show and during intermission.  Volunteers will also restock concessions and related materials before leaving their shift.  They will also close the till and return profit to the theatre manager.  Responsibilities for this position are complete shortly after intermission of each performance.  Concession volunteers are allowed to watch the performance during the night of their shift.  People who volunteer for this position are good at math, enjoy working with the public, and are able to think on their feet.  People can volunteer for individual dates, weekends, or show runs.

  • Will-Call - People who volunteer for Will-Call will arrive to the theatre early, assist in the ticketing process, and distribute tickets to those patrons arriving at the Will-Call area.  Responsibilities for this position are complete shortly after the start of each performance.  Will-Call volunteers are allowed to watch the performance during the night of their shift.  People who volunteer for this position enjoy working with the public and have strong communication skills.  People can volunteer for individual dates, weekends, or show runs.

  • Ushering - People who volunteer for Ushering will arrive to the theatre early, help patrons find their seats, distribute programs, and answer any questions patrons may have about the theatre.  Responsibilities for this position are complete shortly after the start of each performance.  Usher volunteers are allowed to watch the performance during the night of their shift.  People who volunteer for this position enjoy working with the public and have strong communication skills.  People can volunteer for individual dates, weekends, or show runs.

  • Acting - All of our actors throughout the main year are volunteers.  The only actors who ever receive any form of payment are those who perform in the summer melodramas due to the extra time commitment required for these productions.  The easiest way to be informed about audition opportunities with our theatre is to watch the theatre's Facebook page throughout the year.  Audition times and dates will be announced along with descriptions and age-ranges for the roles needed to be cast.  Rehearsal times for shows often run six weeks before opening night for a traditional play and eight weeks before opening night for a musical.  Those acting in a show will receive two complimentary tickets good for anytime during the run of the show.  Experience acting and possessing the ability to sing is always encouraged but never required.

  • Various Projects - Throughout the year, the theatre often has various maintenance and/or cleaning projects.  There are also times to build sets, create props, and construct costumes.  It is possible for people to volunteer to help with these projects as they arise.  The easiest way to be informed about these opportunities is to watch the theatre's Facebook page throughout the year.  If you have interest in working with the theatre on these projects, you can contact the theatre at the e-mail address listed below.  People who volunteer for these positions enjoy focusing on details, have strong working knowledge in a particular field, have a creative sense, and enjoy theatre.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the above positions, or if you wish to become involved in our theatre in any way, please either call us at 208.752.8871 and leave a detailed message, or e-mail us at
